He didn’t believe what Parimal said and thought it was all made up. But the idea of Parimal knowing so much about him still bothered him, so he decided to ask Mr. Mukerji about it. He chose to call Mr. Mukerji instead of meeting him in person to avoid feeling embarrassed.

4. What did Mr Mukerji say? Did it comfort Bepin Babu, or add to his worries?

Answer- Chunilal played this trick because Bepin Babu didn’t help him when he needed it most. He was desperate for a job and asked Bepin for help, but Bepin didn’t do anything. So, to teach him a lesson and make him realize his mistake, Chunilal brought back memories of what happened near Hudroo. Chunilal believed that writing about it would help him move past his tough times.

1. The author describes Bepin Babu as a serious and hardworking man. What evidence can you find in the story to support this?

Answer- Bepin Babu didn’t enjoy being around others, had only a few friends, and preferred living alone. He didn’t like wasting time on small talk. He had been working for a big firm for the past more than 2 decades. Moreover, he had a reputation for being a conscientious worker.

2. Why did Bepin Babu change his mind about meeting Chunilal? What was the result of this meeting?

Answer- Bepin Babu thought that Chuni Lal would remember something about his Ranchi trip in 1958. Chuni Lal confirmed his visit to Ranchi in ’58. Moreover he also informed that it was he who arranged for his ticket to Ranchi and got one of the fans repaired in his railway boggy. Hearing this, Bepin Babu, in a puzzled state, decided to consult a specialist doctor and get treatment for his memory loss.

3. Bepin Babu lost consciousness at Hudroo Falls. What do you think was the reason for this?

Answer- Bepin Babu lost consciousness at Hudroo Falls because he thought it might jog his memory about his previous visit to Ranchi in 1958. Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember anything and ended up falling next to a big rock, accidentally breaking his hip.

4. How do you think Bepin Babu reacted when he found out that Chunilal had tricked him?

Answer- When Bepin Babu discovered that Chunilal tricked him, he felt very sorry for not helping Chuni when he needed it. He regretted saying no to Chunilal and realized that he had forgotten what true friendship meant when he was doing well financially.
